1. “I Love Rock N Roll” by Joan Jett
Singing “I Love Rock N Roll” by Joan Jett at the karaoke bar will make you feel like a true rock legend, minus the leather pants (unless you wear them, of course). And, as an added bonus, this karaoke classic is a guaranteed crowd pleaser.
After its release in 1981, this song soared in popularity because of its catchy tune and bold declaration of love for rock music. Its infectious chorus and punchy rhythm are perfect for getting the whole room on their feet and singing along with you.
But what makes this karaoke song so popular is its simplicity. It requires no vocal gymnastics at all – just pure, unadulterated fun.
2. “Shake It Off” by Taylor Swift
If pop songs are your thing, “Shake It Off” by Taylor Swift is a great song to sing at karaoke night.
Released in 2014, this popular hit quickly climbed the charts with its infectious beat and empowering lyrics, encouraging everyone to dance away their worries and ignore negative people.
I have yet to sing this song at karaoke, but I have been learning it at home. It’s fun, slightly challenging, and oh-so rewarding!
Vocally, it’s not the most difficult song to master, and the chorus is repetitive, so following along is easy. The challenge is staying on beat with Swift’s rapid-fire verses.
3. “I Will Always Love You” by Dolly Parton
Mezzo-Soprano singers, this is your chance to shine! “I Will Always Love You,” originally penned and performed by the legendary Dolly Parton in 1973, is the best karaoke song to showcase your vocal prowess.
This country song with a sprinkle of pop is about saying goodbye to someone you love and wishing them well – despite your own heartache.
For alto singers like myself, this song may be out of your reach, but it’s not impossible. If you do decide to take it on, brace yourself! You’ll need a broad vocal range and exceptional control to navigate its highs and lows.
4. “Killing Me Softly” by Roberta Flack
Since its release in 1973, Roberta Flack’s soulful R&B ballad, “Killing Me Softly,” has been melting hearts, making it an all-time karaoke favorite.
The song’s gentle melody and heartfelt lyrics stir up a cocktail of emotions, so don’t be surprised if the audience reaches for a tissue (or their phone to capture the moment!).
This song is easy(ish) to sing. It’s not too low or too high, so if you have a moderate vocal range, give it a try. It’s a crowd pleaser.
As the song progresses, the emotional intensity builds, inviting you to pour your heart and soul into an unforgettable karaoke performance.
5. “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart” by Elton John
Next on this list of top karaoke songs is Elton John’s 1976 duet featuring KiKi Dee: “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart.” It’s a great karaoke song to sing with your other half or with a best friend. It’s easy to sing for singers of all levels and it never fails gets the party started.
The song’s catchy tune, playful back-and-forth connection between two people promising not to hurt each other, and upbeat tempo create a fun and infectious atmosphere for both singers and the audience.
6. “Wonderwall” by Oasis
I’ve never been a fan of Oasis. Still, despite my personal preference, their song “Wonderwall” has become an essential karaoke classic since its release in 1995.
This Britpop song weaves a narrative that’s both introspective and vaguely romantic, so if you want to serenade someone special, “Wonderwall” is a great karaoke song to choose.
Plus, you don’t need to be the next Pop Idol to sing this one; it’s super easy. And when the chorus arrives, the audience always joins in, turning your karaoke performance into a shared moment of joy.
7. “Livin’ on a Prayer” by Bon Jovi
Bon Jovi’s classic rock anthem of resilience and hope, “Livin’ on a Prayer,” hit the airwaves in 1986 and has been a karaoke favorite ever since.
With its infectious energy and addictive chorus, this song is the ultimate test of your vocal range and lung capacity. You’ll need good breath control and excellent vocal technique to nail the high notes.
And the audience? They’ll be on their feet, hands in the air, belting out, “Woah, we’re halfway there,” “Woah-oh, livin’ on a prayer.”
8. “Ice Ice Baby” by Vanilla Ice
If funny karaoke songs are your thing, check out “Ice Ice Baby” by Vanilla Ice. This 1990 hip-hop classic is one of the most iconic tracks of its era.
The song’s theme is all about the vibrant street life and cool demeanor of its performer, Vanilla Ice. The lyrics are filled with fun references and boastful claims that capture the hip-hop swagger of the early 90s.
What makes this song stand out as a top karaoke choice is its accessibility. With no need for a wide vocal range, anyone can tackle it. Plus, the challenge of keeping pace with the super-fast rap sections will leave the audience in fits of laughter.
9. “Don’t Stop Believin'” by Journey
If you like 80s music and you can hit high notes without straining, “Don’t Stop Believin'” by Journey is your karaoke soulmate.
This rock song, released in 1981, has become a karaoke staple thanks to its relatable message of perseverance, encouraging listeners to NEVER give up and hold onto their dreams.
Taking this song on at karaoke is an adventure. It requires a decent vocal range, but don’t let that intimidate you! It’s more of a fun challenge than a daunting one. In fact, this is one of my favorite songs, and I’m determined to nail it with the help of my vocal coach, Camille, at 30DaySinger.com.
10. “La Bamba” by Ritchie Valens
Want to add a touch of international flair to your next karaoke night? Sing “La Bamba” by the incredibly talented Ritchie Valens.
This 1958 rock and roll rendition of a traditional Mexican folk song has a catchy beat and spirited melody that gets the whole crowd up on the dance floor.
The song’s melody, tempo, and vocal range are easy enough for most singers. However, it is a Spanish song, so if you’re unfamiliar with the language, singing the lyrics is definitely a tongue-twisting challenge.
11. “Let It Go” by Frozen
It’s not just adults who love karaoke; children enjoy it, too. So, who’s ready for a frosty sing-along adventure?
Since its release in 2013, “Let It Go” from the Oscar-nominated Disney film Frozen has captured the hearts of millions of children worldwide.
This power ballad is a vocal playground, inviting kids to explore their range, emotion, and confidence as they belt out the lyrics with all the gusto of a mini Elsa, making it one of the best karaoke songs for kids.
And I’m sure you’ll agree, watching a child sing any song on karaoke, not just “Let It Go,” is a heartwarming experience ending in happy tears, cheers, and applause, regardless of their vocal ability.
12. “A Whole New World” by Aladdin
Who hasn’t fantasized about soaring through the air on a magic carpet while singing their heart out? Oh, just me, then? LOL 🙂
Jokes aside, with a perfect mix of pop and movie soundtrack, “A Whole New World” from Disney’s Aladdin has become an all-time favorite for many karaoke enthusiasts — not just Disney fans.
The song’s theme is all about discovery and adventure. It’s about exploring and experiencing new horizons with someone special.
To dazzle the audience with this duet, both singers need excellent breath control and vocal stamina. And while the required vocal range is moderate, some notes will push your voice to the limit.
13. “Mr. Brightside” by The Killers
Turn karaoke night into an unforgettable rock concert when you sing “Mr. Brightside” by The Killers. This indie rock song soared in popularity after its release in 2003, making it an essential pick for any karaoke lineup.
The song’s themes of jealousy and unrequited love are something everyone can relate to, so don’t expect to sing this one solo; it’s a crowd pleaser! Your karaoke performance will likely become a group sing along when the audience hears the song’s familiar lines.
And the best part? It is suitable for vocalists of all levels.
14. “Bohemian Rhapsody” by Queen
“Bohemian Rhapsody” by Queen is your ticket to the karaoke throne!
Rocking the charts since its release in 1975, this six-minute saga masterpiece, known by many as a rock song, actually goes from ballad to opera to hard rock and back again. It’s genius!
The lyrics, all wrapped up in Freddie Mercury’s poetic talent, tell a tale of confusion, regret, and a plea for freedom.
And the crowd? They’ll be on their feet, cheering, laughing, and holding up their phones with the flashlight on, swaying to the rhythm. No joke. I’ve seen it happen at karaoke night many times before.
But I must warn you. Singing this song requires a vocal range that can soar higher than a rocket and dive deeper than the ocean.
15. “All I Want for Christmas Is You” by Mariah Carey
I love a good karaoke party at Christmas. What do I sing? “All I Want For Christmas Is You” by Mariah Carey, of course. 🙂 It’s one of the best karaoke songs for celebrating the holiday season with family and friends.
Released in 1994, this pop song quickly sleighed its way onto every holiday playlist. Its catchy melody and joyful lyrics capture the essence of Christmas spirit, making it a timeless karaoke classic.
Singing it, however, is a rollercoaster of high pitches, which I don’t always reach. But that’s okay. It’s Christmas. Having FUN is way more important.
16. “Wannabe” by Spice Girls
Despite the critics, “Wannabe” by Spice Girls took the world by storm upon its release in 1996.
This pop anthem virtually sprinted its way to the top of the charts in over 30 countries, becoming the best-selling single by a girl group, with over 7 million copies sold worldwide by the end of 1997.
The song’s theme of friendship and the importance of prioritizing it over romantic relationships makes it a lively karaoke song to sing with a group of girlfriends, often serving as a spirited anthem of girl power and unity.
17. “Dancing Queen” by ABBA
Imagine stepping onto the stage, the first few notes of “Dancing Queen” by ABBA start playing, and the room instantly lights up with excitement.
Since its release in 1976, this iconic hit has inspired countless dance-offs and karaoke battles. There’s just something magical about how it makes you feel, which is no surprise, considering the song’s theme is all about freedom and the excitement of being young and carefree.
But what I like most about this karaoke song is that you don’t have to worry about hitting the high notes because it is so popular; people just want to sing along and show off their best moves on the dance floor, especially when they hear the familiar lyrics: Friday night and the lights are low, looking out for a place to go.
18. “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman” by Aretha Franklin
“(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman” by Aretha Franklin is a karaoke song reserved only for the brave. Trust me, I’ve tried. It demands agility, a wide vocal range, excellent control, and lots of power to navigate the emotional intensity and soaring melodies Franklin is known for.
If that’s you, first of all, I applaud you. And secondly, expect the audience to be utterly captivated by your rendition.
With the song’s empowering message of love and femininity, and of course, Aretha’s unforgettable vocal talent, it’s fair to say the popularity of this soulful anthem is difficult to surpass.
19. “Skyfall” by Adele
Save the world (or at least karaoke night!) one note at a time, singing “Skyfall” by Adele.
This ballad, released in 2012, quickly skyrocketed in popularity. The song’s theme of danger, mystery, and resilience perfectly captures the essence of the James Bond movie it was made for.
Like most of Adele’s songs, “Skyfall” requires a good dose of vocal prowess. But if you step up to the challenge, hit those high notes, and embody the song’s powerful emotions, the audience will be mesmerized by your stirring rendition of this modern classic.
Nail this song, and the crowd will talk about it long after the night ends.
20. “Your Song” by Elton John
For many men stepping onto the karaoke stage for the first time, especially those with low resonant voices, “Your Song” by Elton John is a fantastic choice. It’s one of the best karaoke songs for baritones.
Not only has this pop classic been a karaoke favorite for decades, it has an interesting backstory that adds to its charm.
How so? Elton’s lyrical partner, Bernie Taupin, came up with and quickly scribbled down the original lyrics on a coffee-stained piece of paper at Mrs. Dwight’s (Elton’s mum) breakfast table, likely unaware that it would go on to be Elton’s first-ever hit single [1].
Sidenote: women can sing this song, too. But I’d stick with the 1970 original because the pitch is slightly higher than many of Elton’s 2002 live renditions seen on YouTube.
21. “Can’t Help Falling in Love” by Elvis Presley
Rightfully earning its place as one of the best karaoke songs of all time, “I Can’t Help Falling In Love” by the king of rock ‘n roll, Elvis Presley, has been charming crowds for decades.
In my experience, when you step on the stage and serenade the audience with the song’s iconic opening lines, ‘wise men say only fools rush in,’ you’ll see the atmosphere transform instantly.
Why? Because this song, known for its simplicity and emotional depth, speaks directly to the heart, evoking feelings of love and vulnerability.
22. “My Heart Will Go On” by Celine Dion
With over 76 million views on YouTube, “My Heart Will Go On” by Celine Dion holds a special place in the hearts of karaoke enthusiasts worldwide. This 1997 power ballad, immortalized by the blockbuster movie Titanic, has become an anthem about the power of everlasting love.
Despite my best efforts to sing this song, I haven’t managed it yet. Navigating its dramatic crescendos and tender verses demands vocal power and a range beyond my reach.
But soprano singers who can embrace the challenge and hit all the high notes with emotion should expect a standing ovation from the audience.
23. “Thriller” by Michael Jackson
Have you ever tried moonwalking while belting out a tune at karaoke? No? Me neither, LOL. But if you choose to sing “Thriller” by Michael Jackson, that could soon change.
Released in 1982, this pop and post-disco masterpiece quickly moonwalked (pun intended!) its way to the top of the charts, cementing its place as one of the most iconic songs of its era.
The secret sauce behind the song’s popularity is simple: a thrilling blend of catchy beats, unforgettable lyrics, and a spooky Halloween theme. That said, even when it’s not Halloween, the popularity of this song will have the whole bar singing along with you.
24. “I Will Survive” by Gloria Gaynor
Originally tucked away on the B-side of a single, “I Will Survive” by Gloria Gaynor emerged as a voice of resilience and strength, resonating deeply with listeners of all ages since its release in 1978.
Against all odds, this disco anthem defied expectations to become a global phenomenon, capturing the hearts of millions with its infectious rhythm and empowering lyrics.
Today, this song stands as an all-time karaoke favorite, inviting singers to channel their inner strength and belt out its message of triumph over trials. Sing it with a dose of sass and soul to do it justice.
25. “You Raise Me Up” by Josh Groban
When you’re ready to elevate your karaoke night to legendary status, it’s time to tackle Josh Grobon’s version of “You Raise Me Up.”
